Dr. Hernandez was born and raised in the Philippines and earned his undergraduate (Magna Cum Laude, 1986) and medical degree (University Scholar, 1990) from the University of Santo Tomas-Philippines, and completed his residency and fellowship training at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He then pursued a one-year subspecialty fellowship in Advanced Endoscopy at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He graduated from Harvard University in Boston, MA with a Master’s Degree in Public Health. Patient-centered outcomes, endoscopic ultrasound, intestinal cancers, and pancreatic diseases are among his areas of interest. A published author, he serves as Chairman of the Editorial Review Board of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the official medical journal of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). He is also active in national organizations and served as a member of the Publications Committee of the ASGE. 
Dr. Hernandez is a board certified gastroenterologist, and served as a full time faculty member of the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He currently holds a clinical faculty appointment at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and has been chosen as one of “The Best Doctors in America”.
